.50/1: Missed overcards with draws. Raise or call the flop?
I have been working hard and studying on playing overcards. Lucky in this hand I had position.
Edit: My only read was MP3 who is loose/passive. Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Preflop: James is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 4 folds, MP3 calls, 1 fold, James raises, 1 fold, BB calls, MP3 calls. Flop: (6.50 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) BB bets, MP3 calls, James ??? |

This isn't really a "typical" missed overcards situation.
Actually you have a pretty strong hand. With the button, the nut gutshot, and the backdoor flush draw to go along w/ your Queen or Jack, I would raise. |

[/ QUOTE ] BB looks pretty strong.. wouldn't a weaker hand look to c/r. i have a pretty strong fear of a bet-trey here (or a simple donk when we miss). worse, we have to reopen the betting. toss a player behind us and there might be more incentive to raise to make our pairs more likely to win (fold KJ, etc). turn 6's, 5's, even J's might hurt us pretty bad. at least the flop is rainbow. |

Re: .50/1: Missed overcards with draws. Raise or call the flop?
*grunch from the cheap seats
you have 7 outs here for best hand which means you have about a 20% equity, I can't really give more because the donk bet means you are likely behind here...maybe 5% chance of having best hand already.... so max 25% equity with preflop raiser and one caller... 1 bet into 8.5 is 12.5% equity required to called ...if you raise it you are at your 25% equity value with likely two more bets to come..... If he 3 bets and mp3 folds..... means you are putting 3 bets into a 14 bet pot...but that would mean you most definitely only have 20% equity....and 3 bets requires 21% equity. So if you think a reraise here will not cause a 3 bet and a fold by MP3 then I would reraise it. If you get 3 bet and Mp3 folds then you have 7 outs on the turn into a 7 bet hand so you can see the river at the right odds in that scenario. Getting 7 to 1 and needing 5.6 to 1. Therefore its a reraise here. |

I like a raise here as a free card play.

Raise flop and take the free card, otherwise bet a J/Q/T turn

Raise it up, you'll at least get a free look at the river, you have plenty of outs.
