600NL - Top pair + flush draw + gutterball
Villain is 52/8 and plays too loose both before and after the flop. I was looking to play pots with him.
Normally I would raise the flop and be happy to get my money in. I wasn't sure if I could make this opponent lay down a better hand, however. Should I raise here or just call and try to get the money in if I hit? No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $3/$6 6 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $545.25 UTG+1: $240 CO: $700.40 Hero: $1955.50 SB: $430 BB: $424 Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is Button with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] UTG, folds, UTG+1 (poster) checks, CO raises to $30, Hero calls, 3 folds. I wasn't sure if I could make this opponent lay down a better hand, however. [/ QUOTE ] You mean a set? Board: Ts 7d 6d Dead: equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 56.8182 % 56.36% 00.45% { Td8d } Hand 2: 43.1818 % 42.73% 00.45% { AA } I would play this fast most of the time just because your outs are pretty obvious. Calling is obviously also +EV. |

Yes, I know I'm a favorite over an overpair. I mispoke.

This is perfect example of situation where you can raise your draw for value, is it not?

Re: 600NL - Top pair + flush draw + gutterball
My assumption is that this guy will fire again on the turn.
With his aggression firmly in mind, I like a call on the flop. If you hit on the turn, then determine how best to milk the pot depending upon how much he bets out on the turn. I will make a sizeable raise on the flop vs. many opponents without question. I believe you have more value in evaluating the board after the turn... he might also check you into a free card. He will definately err on the side of paying you off, which adds value to waiting till you have the best of it. If an 8 comes off, then you're in an interesting spot - probably worth calling down. |
