Default do human beings have free will?

Was wondering what peoples opinions were on free will. Does it actually exist or is it a illusion that is actually the result of chemical reactions, social conditioning, etc.

I used to believe very strongly in Free Will, but then i realized that there is no way you would have made this post at this precise moment in time without using the search function unless there was some devine hand at work guiding your actions.
I realized halfway through that this post was not funny at all, and yet i still post it.

That's the million dollar question. I grudingly took on a deterministic philosophy, yet I still don't feel comfortable with it.

It would probably help to come up with a definition first. Of course, defining free will might be just as hard as figuring out whether or not it exists.

Awww come on, I'm enjoying this particular newbie. Fresh meat, as they say.

As a totally unrelated side note, did you guys know that the inside of a dead human being is REALLY GROSS (yes, really gross is a medical term). It is.

You didn't take on the philosophy then, the philosphy took you on. You had no choice in the matter.

That's not true at all. The answer is pretty simple; free will, or any of the popular definitions about it is ridiculous.

No one can possible 'choose' between two options. The illusion of choice is certainly present. What, I ask you, could possibly make that choice?

The things you do are controlled by your brain. Your brain acts in its manner because of it's composition.

to answer this question i will define free will as an individual's ability to choose between multiple options when presented thus having some control in thier outcome.

yes free will does exist. sure each person's genetic makeup and social upbringing greatly affect their worldview, but this is not to say choice does not exist. IMO choice cannot be an illusion because there are too many inconsequential things in our lives that we choose to do at some times and not at others that there would have to be a pattern in our brain that would explain such tendencies. on a side note can anybody give me an example where only the "illusion" of choice exists.

Choice exists, but is deterministic.
