So i feel like getting a DVD set, but have a serious problem paying 50+ bucks for one. However, the quality of HBO's programming is getting me over my financial qualms and now i'm just curious which has better appeal.
I picked up Homicide recently, and one thing i've been somewhat dissapointed in is the lack of rewatchability. I have Arrested Development and The West Wing Season one and one thing i like about both is they are enjoyable after repeated viewings, plus they have good extra features (somethign which Homicide seriously lacks). I've seen 3-4 episodes of Deadwood and love it, but i have not seen any of The Wire (though i LOVE Homicide, so i'm sure i'd like it), i'm just interested in what set is a better buy. Any of you have either of these sets (or another one that's worthy of cash), and what would you recommend about them? |

I'd say Deadwood or The Shield. Outstanding character development, compelling storylines...in other words, things you don't find many other places on TV.

This was another possibility, but i have seen nothing on it so i wasn't sure. The bobbage might be enough to convince me though.

Deadwood. You basically have to watch it 3 times to get all the nuances of the language.

The Wire is the best of all shows listed. Deadwood is 2nd best.
The Shield is good, Rome is decent at best. |

Why was Rome just decent? Maybe I'm a sucker for history-related stuff, but I was entertained.
HBO seems to pump out some pretty quality shows. It seems like you could almost blindly pick a show and be entertained. |
