New to N/L - RANT
I have been playing limit for quite awhile. But I became frustrated by the calling stations who always suck out on me. I can play really tight, and....well you know...blah blah blah
For example, one night I played only 7 hands to the river. Five times with the best hand pre-flop. I won two hands, coming from behind, and lost the five hands I was ahead. But I digress.... So I decided I have had enough of these Donkeys on Limit, and have moved to N/L. However, I am finding there are Donkeys there too! I just returned from the card room where the following happened... I'm in the BB with pocket Qs. I raise it 5x the big blind. I get FOUR callers. I can't believe this. I know I am in trouble. The flop....7 2 J rainbow... The SB checks. I go all-in (match the pot). Two callers, one fold. Caller one has KJ off-suit. SB has pocket dueces. I can't believe these donkeys called with this crap pre-flop. This was not the first time these donkeys misplayed pre-flop. But this was the worst call all night. Now all you who want to defend their calls, don't. I am a 2.5 to 1 favorite over both pre-flop. I am trapped by a set of ducks. But the donkey with the KJ??? Why does he call the all in??? So guess what comes on the turn....Jack... My only out - one of the two remaining queens - doesn't come. My point is this - AT WHAT LEVEL SHOULD I PLAY TO AVOID THE DONKEYS?????????? |

Re: New to N/L - RANT
The Fundamental Theorem of Poker states that anytime your opponent plays his/her cards differently from the way he/she would if your cards were turned up, you profit. A calling station is your best friend, so is an ultra weak tight, so is EVERY other type of bad player. Your profit comes from their mistakes.
Post in the right forum, come back here for strategy help, moving up will sit you down with better players, who make less mistakes, bad idea. Cam |

Re: New to N/L - RANT
Hello, Donkeys are good for poker. IF there weren't donkeys, you would have trouble making money. I want to play with donkeys. Sure, they might suck out once in a while. Most of the time I will be making money. Stick to it for a while and do not lose your composure.

Re: New to N/L - RANT
I play 50/100NL sometimes and there are still donkeys there, but a lot less of them. I think if you want to totally avoid donkeys quit poker. If u handle playing with a few of them play 100/200 and 50/100 NL.

Hold'em is not about who has the best hand preflop. Get over it.

Re: New to N/L - RANT
You need to move up to where they respect your raises, clearly. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY you can beat the game you just described. I'd start saving (there is no way you can possible build a bankroll against donkeys who don't respect your raises). Once you save ~1.5 million dollars, take a shot at a 200/400$ blinds game. I think they run at pokerstars. You'll have a much better chance against these guys.
Good luck. |
