Default Been to a psychic?

Please share any experiences you've had with psychics. Do you believe in them? My dad doesn't, but just saw one who claimed to channel family spirits. I'm not sure if I buy that, but it seems more probable to me than "being able to see into the future". Apparently she was dead on with some things that she would have no way of knowing.

Anyone else believe in this crap?

One of their techniques is asking leading questions. At least you're not guilty of this...

Psychic: I see it. You have a close relative that has his first name that starts w/ an 'S'.

You: No.

Psychic: No, it looks S-like, but could be a 'B'.

You: Wow, amazing, my uncle's name is Bart!

Psychic: Sweet. That'll be 80 bucks. Please come again.

I can ask him in more detail how it went down but I think it was something like:

"Do you have a family member named XXXX?"
"Yes, I do."
"Is he having prostrate problems?"
"Yes?!?" (this was just discovered recently and he is one of only two people who know)
"He needs to do something about that right now while it's still treatable" (In reality, XXX isn't doing anything despite his bad test results)

Like I said, my dad was skeptical going in. I think he wanted her to be full of it.

Another, less clear example:
"Is there a Sarah in your family?"
"Yes" (rwanger's ex-girlfriend)
"She's moved on."

Now while I realize Sarah is a pretty common name, and "She's moved on" can be interpreted in a lot of ways, this conversation with the psychic happened less than a day after I talked to Sarah FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE JANUARY?!? and summed up the conversation pretty well.

I'm sure someone has to have had a similar experience?

FWIW - he wasn't paying this psychic.

i saw one once at a convention (they had a booth set up)...

Pyschic - are you going on a trip soon?
me - yes, this weekend
P - your boat will break down
P - you will also marry someone with an L in their name...

our boat did in fact have some problems that weekend, gas display was busted so we ran out of gas

still waiting to see if her second prediction is right...

If their name starts with an L, that'd be cool. But there's probably a pretty high chance of this if you marry someone with a middle name.

Did she know you were going to be on a boat on your trip? (that would be the last mode of transportation I would assume...)

Edit: unless maybe you were at a boat show to begin with.

I'd like to see very, very specific information like: "You dislike trains, but decided to travel on Amtrak because it saved you $120.29 and will arrive at your destination 1 full day earlier than originally planned. You will die in a horrible and complicated train wreck around 6:23:04 p.m. EST, 32 minutes after departure. The train will catch on fire from a kitchen grease accident and fall off a tall bridge crashing at a velocity of 101 MPH. You will be 42 years, 3 months, and 20 days old. Also, you forget to turn off your toaster oven but doesn't catch your home on fire. Just an FYI."

How would your life change now with this information? Well, I probably wouldn't travel on trains anymore.

Yeah. My dad also said that she said there was going to be a baby in the family soon. Which would mean me.

Well, I like humping too much so I said no. But I would make sure to get regular check ups because of the possible genetic predisposition to getting a cancer. But that's not a psychic-related decision.

I think the more interesting thing about psychics is the reason people go to them. My girlfriend's mom goes to a psychic occasionally and according to her has "amazing accuracy." It's probably part skill on the psychic and gullibility of those participating (people want to believe this stuff). If the psychic wasn't good at guessing things, he/she would be out of a job pretty quick like.

Also most people aren't that analytic or know anything (or care) about things like the scientific method and such. Science and pseudoscience are one in the same for some people.
