Not sure how to play this hand...
I was playing a $24 + 2 NLHE tourney on Full Tilt last night and the following hand came up. I seem to struggle often in these types of situations. Blind are 200-400 with a small ante(maybe 25 or 50 I think). UTG is the big stack at the table with around 15K and makes it 1200 to go. It's folded around to me in the BB. I have around 8K in chips and pocket 10's. Do I muck? Call? Raise? I know I played it terribly. I just called 800 more. The pot had about 2k in it then. Flop was Q and 2 small cards. I lead at it for around 1500 and he raises behind me. Obviously I folded, but how should I have played this hand. Do I reraise to maybe 3000 preflop and hope he mucks. If I do and he moves in, I feel that I almost have to call with almost half of my stack already committed. Help!!! How do YOU play this hand in this spot?

Re: Not sure how to play this hand...
I don't use poker tracker but IMO Pushing PF is prob. very +EV depending on your read. A call isn't necessarily a losing play either depending on how well you play postflop OOP. I may call then C/R this flop all in, call then call flop then C/R turn all in. I may fold on any street too, but my gut says push this preflop, but you can play this in a +ev way many different ways depending on villian.

He seemed a little loose and would likely call with a wide range of hands. I'm still not sure risking my whole stack is the best play though.

Re: Not sure how to play this hand...
I'd push. You only have 20BB left, while not in the red zone yet, this size stack doesn't allow you too much flexibility. Picking up the pot now will increase your stack by 25%. You should welcome a race for the chance to be the new table chip leader.

Re: Not sure how to play this hand...
He's the big stack. You're in fine shape more often than not.
I just ran it through pokerstove and you're a slight favorite vs. a large range for villain. I think that pushing maximizes your FE, which is really what you want in this kind of situation. |
