Default Straddling

Tell me everything to know about straddling in low stakes NLH. Including but not limited to when to do it, when not to do it, how to play when you do it, how to play against it, etc etc.

Too much info to try to post here. Do a search on straddling in the NL forums, you'll find the info there.

Is it +$EV to play out of a blind? No. So why voluntarily put yourself into one?

It's +ev to do this to loosen up a tightish table and to get other people straddling as well. If you play well even with straddles and don't donk raise with stupid hands OOP, you'll do really well, as most people use straddles as an excuse to gamble and make dumb raises/calls. Definitely good for a table, and you straddling lets people think/know that you're not a nit, and gets you more action as a result.

Well, this is a little OT, since it is about limit hold'em, but the thread is far, far too priceless not to mention. Probably an all-time top 20 2+2 post.

This is more or less it. Would add you want to do this more when you are deep stacked against other weaker deep stack players.

As an aside, straddling in a three handed game (i.e., straddling on the button) is so powerful some places may not allow it.

[/ QUOTE ] Straddling on the button in a 10 handed game in Mississippi is normal in our NL and PL games. You can expect to see it happpen at least 4 times per orbit.

I played the 2-5 blind 200-500 buy (or was it 300-500 buy?) during the first week of the WSOP at the Rio. The final table I played allowed the Missisippi straddle, perhaps by mistake. It seemed to be too good to be true but I was the only one doing it.
