Default How is TI?

Hey guys. Planning a trip to Vegas for late September. We want a nice location for lots of poker, fun nightlife, and a nice pool. My options are:

1) TI pretty cheaply.
2) Flamingo for a little more. We stayed here the last time in Vegas. Loved the location, loved the pool, but the rooms weren't great (but who gives an eff, right?)
3) Golden Nugget+rental car for cheaper than 1 or 2.
4) Lots of other things I haven't even considerd.

I guess I was surprised to see that TI is cheaper than the Flamingo and just wanted some input.

Thanks in advance.

Seriously... the room quality should be one of your lowest concerns. I mean, obviously a clean room is important, but other than that meh.

One thing to consider is the property owner. With Flamingo you get Harrah's (Caesar's, Bally's, Paris, Rio, etc.). With TI you get MGM-Mirage properties. Flamingo is closer to Bellagio, but TI is closer to Wynn.

The Flamingo pool is better.

TI's poker room is fairly standard for the middle market poker rooms.

As far as hotel, it will be the best choice of the ones hat you mentioned. Above Flamingo and Golden Nugget, though Flamingo does indeed have a better pool.

Staying downtown is its own animal. The poker is less then par there, though I personally do enjoy a stroll downtown every once in a while. Staying downtown is not something I would recommend for a "special trip". The Strip is a better choice.

With regard to poker rooms, TI puts you right between three big rooms (Venetian, Mirage, and Wynn). I see many TI hotel guests at the V tables. Since the TI poker room is small, they do not have consitent action and smooth running waits a lot of the time, though they do get mixed games going moreso then any other comperably small room.

i really like TI. it's one of my favorite hotels there. it's certainly nothing extravagent. just a good deal for the money. rooms are nice, the casino is good, and good location.

im curious what people think about the frontier. on my last flight out to vegas a guy told me he got 3 nights for $100 total. it's right across from the wynn. seems crazy to stay at the wynn for $200/night when you dont even sleep much in the room if you can stay right across the street for $35. thoughts?

Frontier is truly the bottom of the barrel of Strip hotels, now that Westward Ho and the Boardwalk are gone.

Rumored to be next on the implosion list after Stardust, it is a classic old place, that lacks a poker room, but is well known for its Bikini Bull Riding (mechancial bull) and Mud Wrestling on select nights.

All in all it is a value casino/hotel, in a great location, that is perfect for those in a strict budget.

Thanks guys.

You all say the Flamingo's pool is better, but is TI's pool nice? Not for me... the wife needs a nice pool.

Thanks again.

TI's is "Standard". It is on par with the pools at other comperable resorts (Monte Carlo, Excal, Aladdin, etc), which means it is just fine, but not extravegant (Mandalay, Tropicana, Wynn, etc).

If you have time I do suggest a side trip to downtown one day. The Golden Nugget's poker room is very nice with great dealers and a wild 1/2 NL game. If you don't have a large roll just buy in short and hope to get lucky. You might get to play with the Duke of Fremont Street which is a treat in itself. Also check out Binions room for the history and old school vibe.
