EXCLUDING THIS ONE, who were the worst presidents ever and why?

I expect this thread to get few to no responses but oh well..

Are you kidding. You’ll get lot’s of responses. Beginning with the suspenders of habeas Corpus, such as Lincoln and Roosevelt (perhaps others).

We've gone through this one before.

The unanimous anarchocapitard vote is that Abraham Lincoln was the worst president ever, and that William Henry Harrison was the best.

1. Lincoln. Provoked an unnecessary war that killed 500,000 American citizens, imprisoned 15,000!!!! journalists (again...15 [censored] THOUSAND. FIFTEEN THOUSAND!!!) He couldn't have cared less if the slaves were freed (see his letter to Horace Greeley.) Rather, he killed all these citizens to save the union, which was really a euphemism for enforcing his party's mercantilist trade policies on the south. Oh, and burned a bunch of Southern cities to the ground, and allowed his generals to conduct total war on the civilian populations of the south. Our worst president by a large margin.

After this...it's FDR, LBJ, Nixon, and Hoover. IMO they are fairly close in their relative levels of suckiness. Nixon is the biggest disappointment because of these four he was the one who should have known better.

Just read his wikipedia entry and found this tidbit:

"Harding’s brief tenure in office has been widely characterized as one in which the President did little aside from play poker with cronies or golf with friends."

Awesome. If only more presidents would have followed his lead.
