Default Here\'s what I got from Ga Senator regarding HR4411...

Anyone wishing to share their views with this douche, please do.

Dear Mr. xxxx :

Thank you for contacting me regarding HR 4411, the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act . I appreciate hearing from you, and I am glad to have the opportunity to respond.

In July, the House passed the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act . This important legislation would take steps to prevent unlawful internet gambling by pr ohibiting the use of certain payment instruments, credit cards, and fund transfers for questionable i nternet gambling. Currently, this bill has been placed on the Senate calendar under general orders. I support the goals of this legislation, and therefore have signed a letter to Senate leadership asking that they make this a legislative priority.

Please feel free to visit my website at http://isakson.senate.gov/ for more information on issues that may be of importance to you. Thank you again for contacting me, and I hope you will not hesitate to call on me in the future if I can be of assistance to you.

Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson
United States Senator

"I ... therefore have signed a letter to Senate leadership asking that they make this a legislative priority."

I would like to know how many signers this letter has. also, I think it is generally speaking a way to show that there are the votes to pass it if it comes up for a vote ...

Anyone have details on this referenced letter ?

75% chance it passes after they come back...I've been sticking by it as sick to my stomach as it makes me.

I agree. All of these ostriches with their heads in the sand are going to be very surprised when they wake up one morning and can't access their favorite poker site.

I agree with both of you. Too many people here are whistling past the graveyard. Unfortunately for them, the gravy train is soon going to come to a screeching halt.

The last I read, there were quite a few holds placed on the legislation (Republican and Democrat). As long as those holds are still there, the Senate can't move on the legislation. About this "letter", wasn't the online gambling bill one of the Republican's top priorities for the election season?

It's pretty highly unlikely it passes this time, if that's what you're talking about.

As I posted in another thread, I had a phone call with Patrick Obrien yesterday. He's a huge attorney in the online gaming industry. He respresented Casino City in their suit against the DOJ and he works with several other online gambling businesses.

He said very unlikely to pass this time, but the issue may not go away.

Unfortunitely, he had no opinion on the issue of whether the US will move to legalize and tax. He just didn't have any idea right now.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has made the passage of this bill next month one of his top three priorities. That says more to me than what some lawyer may think.

Frist is one of the main backers of the plan, so of course it's on his top list. Do you want me to list the senators who do not have this bill in their top 3?

"Some lawyer" lol.
