Casino keeps $700 man found
So I guess if you're ever inclined to be a nice guy and turn it in, don't.
[ QUOTE ] Casino keeps $700 man found Associated Press MILWAUKEE - Charles Meyer said he had only a brief moment of hesitation before he turned over the $700 he found on the floor of Milwaukee's Potawatomi Bingo Casino. In hindsight, he said he might have acted differently had he known the casino would keep the money he found last April after no one stepped up to claim it. "For some reason, I called for security when I picked up the money," Meyer wrote in a letter to the state outlining what happened. "Certainly, I wanted to see the money returned to the patron who had evidently lost it." He said he also thought the casino might let him keep the cash if the casino couldn't find the owner. His reward for turning over the cash was a $25 casino slot play voucher he already used. "Considering how my family reacted, maybe I would have hung onto it," he said of the crisp seven $100 bills. The situation prompted Meyer to file a complaint with the state Division of Gaming in November. Meyer asked, "Are the tribes, such as the Potawatomi, justified in keeping untraced money turned in to the security desk or do you believe more in a concept of 'finder's-keepers?'" Casino spokeswoman Dianne Markut said it's standard practice for the casino to keep any found money if no one can legitimately claim ownership. "Our guest services folks have been working with Mr. Meyer since April," she said. "He knows this is the practice." Meyer, of Bristol, said he learned of the tribal gaming commission's decision in late September. The Potawatomi commission determined the tribe should keep the money and use it "for a charitable operation run by the tribe," Meyer said he was told. Under state law, anyone who finds something worth more than $100 and turns it in with a written report to police can keep it if no one claims it within 90 days. Markut said Meyer did not notify police. She said the casino's policy was fair and consistent with those of other casinos nationwide. Scott Larrivee, a spokesman for the state gaming division, said the matter remains under review. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Casino keeps $700 man found
I found almost as much outside a bank and very nearly did not get it after it was unclaimed. Long thread, but basically a couple people that worked as tellers said that the bank had just as much right to it as I did once I turned it in, and often would not return the money. I did get it, though.

I found a $500 slot ticket, but unfortunately I was at work and the eye in the sky could have been on me So we shredded it.

Re: Casino keeps $700 man found
In the retail store where I work found money is deposited to the bank with the daily receipts. If an employee found it, we do the courtesy of returning it to him if it is unclaimed for 30 days, if it was a customer, we just keep it.

Re: Casino keeps $700 man found
This is why you have to be crazy to turn cash in
If i find someones wallet I will call them and return it but loose cash? Whats to stop the casino rep or bak teller from having his friend come in to collect it the next day? So instead you do the right thing and get screwed. Most people are not honest when it comes to cash and I do not trust a bank or casino to actually tell someone who comes in looking for it that they have it. |

The money was not yours to start with-agreed
However if noone claims it, it becomes yours. If noone claims it and somebody keeps it you have been screwed. |
