Villian is a TAG
BB just came to table 3 hands ago no reads. About 60 left 100/200 blinds w/ 25 ante coming in 2 minutes PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (9 handed) internettexasholdem.com CO (t1945) Button (t4395) Hero (t6050) BB (t2772) UTG (t2610) UTG+1 (t11013) MP1 (t3275) Villian (t10510) MP3 (t3485) Preflop: Hero is SB with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 3 folds</font>, Villian raises to t400</font>, 3 folds</font>, Hero calls t300, BB calls t200. Flop (t1200) 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)</font> Hero checks, BB bets 1200, Villian raises to 2400, Hero ??? When Vilian min-raised PF I put him on JJ+ and maybe AK since he hadn't done it prior (all raises were standard). I called for the set (obviously) so I can double through w/ little to no risk if I miss. When the flop came I wasn't sure what to do so I checked to see what's what. 1) Can I ever fold this, assuming BB is going to call of w/ his stack, knowing I'm behind? 2) If I call I'm assured of seeing a turn since BB cannot re-pop in this spot but is it worth it for ~1/2 my stack? 3) Instead of checking the flop is a push better? - JA |

I think this is a fold... none of your outs are clean. 2 of your straight cards are clubs, both 5s put 4 to a straight on the board, and none of your draws are to the nuts. Get out of the hand.

Actually hero he has a backdoor draw to the nuts. Villian is a TAG so he's playing pocket pairs and high cards. You have a great draw against a pocket pair and are ahead of high cards. BB could have anything.
I would 3-bet allin, expecting to isolate the BB and being decent against his range. Calling is a terrible idea. Open pushing is another terrible idea, though not quite as terrible as calling. |

It's tricky spots like these that give me hella trouble in the risk vs reward sense.
All of my options in this spot just felt wrong. Even if say I 3-bet CR AI there is no way to say that I have enough FE for Villian to fold, while at the same time BB has to call since he already committed himself to the pot especially if he is on a flush draw. I agree calling is straight terrible because then I commit myself to the pot all the way not knowing if all of my outs are clean. Since if I'm going to call I might has well push. The min-raise PF and on the flop from Villian is just screaming "I HAVE A BIG PAIR" which made me wanna puke since I wasn't sure if I wanted to gamble or not knowing I'm behind in the hand (Leak in my game maybe). What is really the best action here, other than fold PF which was never an option? - JA |

Fold now, or lead the flop for 800 if your feeling frisky, the way the action went down sucks but you have to fold.

I generally push here. Villain's line looks a ton like an overpair and I love gambling in these spots. Calling is the only really horrible option.
