Default Announcer Relief

Are other announcers set to relieve Phil Gordon and Co.? I would think announcing would be much more difficult than playing if the tournament lasts 18 hours as Zolotow estimated. Tough to keep up that enthusiasm if the adrenalin that comes from being a participant of the game is not there.

For long days in major golf tournies they frequently have commentators take couple hours breaks or whatever, and there's way more distribution of commentating.

I have broadcast several 5 or 6-hour long baseball doubleheaders.

My record for broadcasting was almost 10 hours in what was essentially a baseball 'triple-header' that included a 3-hour rain-delay.

Triple-headers aren't technically legal in baseball but it wasn't technically a triple-header really.

Game 1 was the completion of a suspended game from the day before so it officially counted as taking place the day before.

And we had run out of chances to play the 2 remaining scheduled games and both teams had playoff implications riding on them so we were kind of stuck with it.

It was June, 2001 Vero Beach Dodgers at Tampa Yankees.

I was on at 4:15p, game 2 had a 3-hour delay (lots of taped-interviews with occasional live status-reports), then the game went extra-innings.
Game 3 started at 12:05am and finished at 2:11am.

I did this whole broadcast solo by the way.
And we had played a doubleheader until 1:35am just 4 or 5 days earlier.

But, yeah, doing this 18-hour WSOP broadcast would be pretty exhausting.

I think they are doing an absolutely terrific job though.
I am really impressed with the banter and analysis in this and think that some other poker announcers out there could learn a thing or two from these guys.

Next year they should do 1/2 these 2 again and the other 1/2 Bart and Tuch from L@TB.

They started getting really wild with their conversation as of late.

Did anyone hear Phil Gordon drop the f bomb on air earlier? My buddy said that the old guy said "I put him on Qs or Js" and then Gordon was like "Cover your f'n mouth up!"

I missed the f-bomb.
It's PPV cable so it's really not a big deal even though it's inapprorpiate.
For that long on the air it's certainly understandable.

I agree that rotating announcers would be a good idea.

Consider that this is beyond just your 'regular' type sports-broadcast in that they are on-air for so long between breaks too.

I was just thinking about how I would have to curtail my coffee/soda drinking for a broadcast like this.
This is different from a baseball broadcast where you get so many between-inning breaks to get to pee.

and if you're late getting back to the booth you just have the bumper-music carry-over a little longer or your broadcast-partner reads whatever sponsor-card needs to be read.

These guys don't have the frequent pee-break luxury. I would have been pretty surprised if i saw either drinking beverages (which I haven't noticed).
