Blocking Bet
I'm reading NL theory and practice and just finished the section on blocking bets. Is this about right? If he calls, I'm getting a little better than break even pot odds. How often can I check the river when I hit? Never? That's my initial thought. But it could certainly induce a bluff into a huge pot. Ok, I'm done.

Re: Blocking Bet
If you're asking about the turn, I would agree that is is a blocking bet, but used at a very wrong time.
In this hand, I'd fold pf, fold pf again, then c/f unless I made a straight. |

Re: Blocking Bet
I gotta agree with dano 100%, i like to be realtively loose sometimes preflop but this is neither the time nor the place.
As played, yes the semi-bluff/blocking bet are fine. If i hit on the river id bet it though. Cos like 56 never bets a draw on the turn so you cant have it... |

Re: Blocking Bet
the blocking bet is more often used to prevent a raise and save money on 2nd best hands...this isnt an ideal situation when you are still drawing. also, your draw is VERY concealed, so a blocking bet is relatively pointless.

Re: Blocking Bet
i am indeed talking about the turn.
generally speaking, why was this a bad time for a blocking bet. it worked in my favor this time. i don't really mind folding to a raise here. is that terrible? |

Re: Blocking Bet
ah, looking back. the flop checked around. it's becoming clear. i'm not sure why i assumed he would bet the turn. i guess position and a pf raise.
