say i met a girl who was 17 on the internet ( this is hypothetical ) and she told me she wanted me to visit her. she lives in canada where the age of consent is 16. i live in new york where the age of consent is, i believe, 18. have i commited a crime by traveling there with the intent to have sex with her? what if i don't have sex with her but we mess around, is that a crime?

yeah but i was thinking alon the lines of, if you travel to thailand to have sex with a 5 year old boy ( gildwulf ), you've definetly commited a crime. although i guess having sex with a 5 year old boy is illegal pretty much wherever you go, so i kind of just answered my own question.

i would be very inclined to believe that this girl is real, but i know a kid who met her when his band was on tour in canada.
