Default Playing full ring 400nl and above even worth it? I am at a crossroad

1st off let me say I am averaging about 10k a month playing 30,000 hands a month on Party Poker's 200nl tables. I 8 table playing pretty TAG and do well. There are always fishy tables to find at the 200nl level. I am at the point now where I am seriously considering quitting my job and doing this fulltime but I don't see any future at all in the higher full ring tables. I have spent the past month datamining them and the past week playing them and they are so tight that I can't see it being very profitable. On top of that the tables are full of super tight regulars like Pavel55 who never sleeps? I have over 45,000 hands on him in 8 damn days??? He is 10/2. So what I am asking is should I even bother with playing the 400/600's or should I switch over to SH which seems very profitable at all levels. My best friend is 7 tabling the 2k's and consistantly makes 40-50k a month. I've done some research on other sites and 400nl and above full ring tables are extremely hard to find yet SH games are abundant everywhere. I've been tinkering around with SH for a few days and it is extremely stressful compared to FR but its a lot more fun although I don't know if I can put in the kind of hours i do at FR playing SH..Its damn tiring. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I was in the exact same spot as you about 8 months ago. I 100% suggest 6max. Since you're doing so well at full ring, I'd say just move to 100NL 6max and get your footing. After about 25-50k hands, once you feel ready, move up.

And then continue to move up as you feel confident and are rolled.

Seriously, shorthanded play is a MAJOR MAJOR advancement to your game. Keep it up

i was in your position a while back too. switching to 6max is a very good idea, given the state of the online games now as well as your own improvement in play. you should be able to adjust quickly to 6max, just cut down on the number of tables you're playing at first and slowly increase them as you become more comfortable.

I was also in almost the exact situation Younggunz pulling 10k at Full Ring doing 8-10 tables and on the verge of quitting my job. In the last month and a bit played 60k hands and have found myself running at 0.75 BB/100 which is horrible compared to my FR stats.

My advice would be to make sure you are well adept at 6max before leaving your job. It is a very different game and takes some adjusting. You will also need to play less tables at the start until you become more comfortable.

to go with the trend of the thread, "i was in almost the same situation you were a few months back"...to change things up a bit, i've stuck with FR and i've been playing 5/10 for 30k hands now over last couple weeks. running at 3ptBB/100 over that time while 8tabling, the money has been decent though i need to motivate myself to play more hands. i'm going back to school next month so i dont have to decide whether i want to make this my career yet, but i definitely think there's plenty of money to be made at FR for now up to the 5/10 level...cant speak for any higher since i haven't played there yet. if you want to go with what everyone else is doing, (which may be the right move since so many of them make lots of $$$), then go ahead and make the switch. just letting u know that it's definitely doable up to the 5/10 level.

I know, it's ridiculous. I have a few thousand on that guy myself, and he's basically the most barebones nut peddler I've ever seen. Young guns.... what kind of winrate is he at, out of curiousity? He can't be doing more than 2BB/100 over a large sample.

And as for the actual point of the OP:

Learn 6 max, like everyone else is saying. It's definitely the best way to go. On the other hand, I really don't see 2/4 and 3/6 games as being remotely tough. 5/10 and beyond is likely a different story, but even that probably depends on the site. Personally, I play like 80% 6max with some full ring mixed in when I like to relax. FR is boring, but it's also low stress easy money, imo.

i played 200nl on FTP and stars, then 400/600nl on stars for a long time where i ran bad for a while. eventually moved to party 4 months ago or so, started at 200nl to get started and worked my way up to 1knl since then.
