How much would you pay for a pack of weed?

Okay, say the United States starts regulating the sale of marijuana. Marlboro has stepped up to the plate and is offering Marlboro Greens. A pack of Marlboro Greens contains 20 unfiltered .5 gram joints. Marlboro Greens are the quality equivalent of Marijuana as Budweiser is to beer. IE There is worse bud out there, and there is better bud out there.


Several questions:

a.) How much would you pay for a pack of Marlboro Greens?
b.) How much would you actually expect a pack of Marlboro Greens to cost?
c.) At what price would Marlboro Greens cost so much that you would never consider ever buying a pack, and only grow marijuana yourself.

My stepbro and I were discussing this last night.

He says he expects the price to be $30 per pack. At any more than $30 per pack, he thinks people would not be willing to pay, and would instead grow their own or buy from others who are growing their own. Also, homeless people etc, would not be able to afford any higher than $30, which would hurt sales. My counterpoint to this argument is that homeless people will not be buying "budweiser-type" weed, but will instead be buying "King Cobra malt liquor-type" weed.

I won't say what I think the actual price would be, but I was suggesting to him that the asking price could easily be $50/pack, and people will pay it. Most people are too lazy to grow their own, and private growers would be competing with the large growers. The large growers can take a lower margin with more quantity sold, and for a private grower to make it worth his while, I don't think he/she could offer, or would have the incentive to offer, a much better price. Anybody else ever thought about this, or have some economic insight to offer?

edit: For me, the price would probably have to start getting in the $75-$100 range before I would go through the trouble of growing my own in order to support my day to day smoking habit (if I still smoked). I would probably have some good stuff growing on the side, but I wouldn't rely on my homegrowns to support me.

My stepbrother brews his own beer and hasn't bought a beer from a store in months, so he would probably do the same for marijuana.

This is a good point, mass production could reduce the price significantly.

I'm curious about the herbal economy of Amsterdam. From what I have seen and heard, the price of herb seems to be around $20/gram. This is for much more potent herb than we get here in the states most of the time, but still; $20/gram is quite a bit of coin. How much would some poopy weed cost in Amsterdam, and aren't they mass producing all sorts of bud there? Is it still "expensive" because of the lack of a LARGE (IE Marlboro) corporate backing?

but 1/8th prices are commonly

$80 - overpriced chronic
$60 - reasonably priced chronic
$40 and below - nasty shwag

now cut those prices in 1/2 and we're in business

Yes, the whole reason weed is so expensive is becuase there arent large fields in america to grow it in the same respect that there are tobacco fields. Id pay 10-20$, but the packs would probably be cheaper, as Im assuming weed is actually easiedr to grow than tobbaco?

A pack would be approximately 3/8 worth of bud. (20 .5g joints)

This would me marlboro's price, but the gov would step in and want their cut, and uncle sams cut would be big, i'm not sure how big though.

I think a lot of it would have to do with competition. If Marlboro Greens was one of the only companies selling these packs, they could get away with charging $40 a pack. If all the cigarette companies today started selling "greens" of similar quality I could see packs costing $25

If you know someone big though, you can get GOOD 1/8ths for 25-35$'s.
