10/20 live game - flopped trips
I am the BB with K3 suited. Two limpers into the pot. The SB, who is a good player, raises. I call and so do the limpers.
Pot is $80. Flop comes J33 no flush draw. I bet, middle position players fold and SB raises. I call. Pot is now $120. Turn is a blank. SB bets into me, I raise and he folds. Considering this is heads up with no real draw out there should I have just called the turn? |

I alternate between this and threebetting the flop.

Re: 10/20 live game - flopped trips
Well played.
[ QUOTE ] Considering this is heads up with no real draw out there should I have just called the turn [/ QUOTE ] Nah - If he has no hand to show down, he's most likely giving up on the river anyway and you don't get any more bets out of him after his turn bet. By raising the turn, you get the most out of hands that he will show down, like overpairs, AJ, or even pocket underpairs. Raising the turn makes the same as waiting for the river when he has nothing but makes more when he does have a hand. Unless he's someone who loves to fire out a bluff here, and keep on bluffing. But then, the play against them is to always just call to the river then raise! |

I take it I shouldn't be folding my s00ted K-low's in this situation getting 7:1?

But I'll play them often in this spot. Ever since I read that old Ed Miller post about wanting to get involved in pots with weak players, when he used K4s as an example, I've been looking for situations like that. Playing less than premium hands against weak opponents, just because you can outplay them postflop. So I guess that a read on the limpers may help here. If they are weak, are calling stations, are payoff donkey's and the like, then yeah - I make that call quite often. |

Re: 10/20 live game - flopped trips
7:1 any too suited is a call for me, extra bonus for the high card. One exception is if you know the limpers like to call/rr pf. Then is it is not worth it. As 640 eludes to, the other exception is if the players are tricky postflop, it might be harder to play correctly negating the +EV the call has.

7:1 any too suited is a call for me, extra bonus for the high card. [/ QUOTE ] Relative position sucks here. The things that are a disadvantage: 1) SB probably isn't going to give free cards if you flop a three-flush or gutshot. The callers probably won't raise but you do run that risk if SB bets out. 2) Your relative position makes it difficult to extract the maximum, i.e. by trapping the field on a flush draw or checkraising the preflop raiser when your draw comes in. Your advantage is being able to protect a top&bottom 2pair and maybe even one pair. This one pair is not worth much when your two suited are 9-3. When UTG raises and there are a few coldcallers, you can call in the BB with two suited....which is something I didn't do 4 months ago. |
