Dealer totally embarrasses player with funny comment to other players
1/2 at Bally's. Stacks are pretty deep, 3-4 in the 800s-900s. There's a super donk to my left that has gone from 1100 to 250 in a matter of 6 hands calling huge raises and reraises with trash and check folding to bets on the flop, turn or river. He keeps drilling the dealer with comments, "YOU DEAL SHEEEEEETY CARDS MANG!" in his broken euro english, "EVERY TIME THEY DRAW OUT ON ME, CAN'T HIT SHEEEEEET!, "YOU SUCK!!!!!".
After the 6th hand of complete berating, the dealer finally says, "Your dwindling stack has no reflection on how I deal cards." He said it in the most calm voice and the whole table just busted out laughing. I honestly felt bad for the super donk. He got up, left the table and returned when there was a dealer change. He played for an hour or so, then when the other dealer came back, the donk left until his shift was done and came back. It was definitely something I've never seen before! |

Inappropriate... but really funny.
I really don't want what the dealer said to be inappropriate, but it is. |

It's tough being berated by players for things that aren't your fault, but this sort of thing is why most dealers should just STFU and deal.

Re: Dealer totally embarrasses player with funny comment to other play
Though the comment is technically inappropriate to say, is it better then the alternative. Most card rooms have a rule against verbal abuse of a dealer (and other players). If he wanted to (especially after the player told him that he "sucks"), he could have called a floor and have the player escorted out for verbal abuse. I have seen this occur more then once at more then one cardroom.
Instead of going that route, though, the dealer said something to the player, that probably should not have been said, as the rest of the table is affected by him not being there any more. Having said that, though, dealers or players should not have to put up with said abuse in any cardroom. |

Tough to keep your mouth shut sometimes.
I had a real jerk at the table. Nasty as can be to the dealer (me) and the players. I couldn't take it anymore and zinged him good. And I felt really bad afterwards. Till I got to the next table and four people from the last table came over and told me "thanks that was great". and toked me. |

Re: Dealer totally embarrasses player with funny comment to other play
Interesting take -- I actually think the dealer complaining to the floor and getting the man warned would be much better. It would make it clear that the insitutional authority of the cardroom was standing up against dealer abuse and that the player's behavior wouldn't be tolerated. (Escorting him to the door without warning is a bit extreme, but for a second or third offense is warranted.)
In the OP, there's no "rule of law" -- it's just an employee jawing with a customer, which is pretty unprofessional. I would have more professional respect if the dealer got the floor involved rather than poking fun at the player himself. And mentioning stack sizes is doubleplusungood -- could lead the fish to play better, etc. |

Re: Dealer totally embarrasses player with funny comment to other players
Stupid dealer.
There are a few dealers that irritate me enough that cause me to leave for their deal as long as it is not a time charge game. I just figure I lose very little and avoiding the -EV of being totally angry and irritated is worth taking a break, especially if I have to take a dump or want to get something to eat. There is nothing wrong with the guy leaving the table. It is more mature than sitting their mincing words with the dealer. I applaud the guy for that. But blaming the dealer for how the cards fall is something that goes beyond me. It's like blaming the weatherman because it rained. Still many players do this. It is somewhat comical, but somewhat annoying. The only way the dealer has any control over what comes out is if he is stacking the deck, and if that is happening, there is a problem. I guess the dealer becomes the scapegoat for the "luck" factor. Dealers should understand this and take it lightheartedly. The last thing I would ever berate a dealer for was how the cards came out. I would be more likely to get angry at slowness or inability to take control of the game. And still I let this pass, because complaining will only make them self-conscious and worsen the problem. If I come out and say "Hey, you should be fired," I cant imagine they are going to magically become more efficient. Blaming the dealer for bad luck reminds me of another stupid occurence that drives me insane. Why cant anyone figure out what it takes to hit a bad beat jackpot? It's not like it's rocket science here. Everytime I play guys are throwing back and forth arguments, "So if I had an ace, that would be the jackpot?" and just totally ridiculously wrong speculations, "If you had a seven...Yeah. Then we would hit it." Jacks full of Aces is not Aces full of jacks, kickers dont play in full houses or straight flushes... Why is this so hard to comprehend? If you cant get this right, how do you manage to play cards? How do you manage to tie your shoes? Is this some kind of "I'm stupid, give me action" act? I get so frustrated I start throwing out ridiculous speculations of my own to see how they will react, because I just cant believe nobody can figure this out. -J |

Re: Dealer totally embarrasses player with funny comment to other play
I frequently tell players to "Play Better" when they whine about the bad cards they are getting. All have taken it in the lighthearted way it is meant.
