The Descent - don't really get the ending?

decent scare movie, I enjoyed it. But i really dont get the very end. I jumped of course, so I didnt get a good look at the girl in the car. Anyone else that seen it care to explain? or give their 2 cents?

It was all a dream. Bit of a scam really, no idea why the last bit is there.

You guys are talking about two different endings.

BaHorst -- you saw the U.S. ending, which ends with the scare-shot of the girl in the car. It was just another hallucination Sara was having, implying she's going to be haunted by these events pretty much the rest of her life... the psychological damage is just heaped on top of the crap already done by the accident with her husband and daughter.

The_Bends -- you're talking about the UK ending, which continues past the passenger seat shot, and goes back to the cave, where Sara wakes up from the "dream" (of escaping from the cave, getting into the truck, almost being hit bu a semi, then sitting by the side of the road) to find herself in the dark, hallucinating once more about a birthday with her daughter. It's even more cynical, but both endings imply irreparable psychological damage to Sara.

I liked both of them, but I think the UK one just gets a bit too tricky. Surprisingly, this is one time I liked the US version better -- Marshall shot both endings during production and couldn't decide which one to use.

I agree. The UK ending is just a cheap shot to the audience. The 'and it was all a dream' ending is very rarely justifiable and it certinaly wasn't in this case. The US ending sounds much better.

What? If I remember correctly the UK ending wasn't all a dream, just the part of her escaping right? Awesome movie though.
