Are you overrolled?
right now my playing BR is about $1,060 and i still plan to do NL20 instead of NL50 while im whoring on prima. when i moved from 25->50 on party i never did well (i had anywhere from 600-1000 when i took a shot), and i think part of it was just that i wasn't comfortable losing a $50+ pot yet. i think once i get up to $1500 or so i will move up.
anyone else feel this way? it has a huge effect on my game, the money really has to mean "nothing" to me to play my best. obviously this slows down my bonus efforts, but i think it's worth it. |

Re: Are you overrolled?
I multi-table $11 and sometimes $22 MT SNGs with a $12,000 bankroll. I should only need about 1/6 of this amount according to the FAQ. I think my worst downswing has been less than $300. Though in my defense it takes forever for $33 and higher MT SNGs to fill up and my ROI is too high to abandon my low stakes SNGs for cash games.

[/ QUOTE ] If you multi-site, you should be able to get a lot of $33's going, although multi-siting may not appeal to you (for example, my AHK script is party specific, so I wouldn't want to play many sites at a time with it). - - - Last month I was playing 15/30 and 20/40 limit. Jumped into a 30/60 game once. BR peaked at 30k in this span, but I had jumped up from 10/20 every so quickly and because I was not used to the level or the potential swings (I actually never experienced any harsh swings, but I knew they were possible), I was very reluctant to play. I put in 11 hours last month. Just recentely, I started to try out NL. To make sure I don't donate while learning, I started out in NL100... 250 buy-ins. 3 days later, I've played over 8 hours and never felt uneasy about starting or playing. It's truly a wonderous feeling (although running hot for 8 hours and still not recovering from 1 hour of running bad at limit isn't quite as wonderous a feeling). Living proof that playing overrolled leads to a significant increase in psychological ease. Unfortunately, it may also significantly hurt one's potential earn rate. |

Re: Are you overrolled?
I tend to be way overrolled for the limits I play, readily drop down when running bad, and am basically a pussy when it comes to taking shots at the next limit up.

Re: Are you overrolled?
Theres nothing wrong with being conservative, but I think you lose a lot of value if you don't aim to move up after 40 buyins maximum. If you play poker purely for recreational reasons then this is fine, but I would recommend moving up if this is not the case.
Heres a thread were several issues on moving up are discussed. |

Re: Are you overrolled?
Perhaps the greatest "moving up" post ever
try 50NL when: - you're confident in your preflop game - you understand position - you have a good idea of their hand by the river - you have an ok feel when to continuation bet - you have 500 or more 100NL when: - you're confident playing draws - you can spot good semibluff opportunities - you can lay down AA/KK unimproved - you're attacking the blinds in easy steal situations - you have 1200+ 200NL when: - you're ok betting your stack on a draw - a PFR from you doesnt always mean AA-JJ and AQs+ - you're starting to play one hand while holding another - you have more than one mode - you have 3000 or more 400NL when: - you can ID profitable preflop steals - you know how to pick between b3b and c/r - position factors heavily into your play - you're good at manipulating pot size - you have 6000+ 1K NL when - your lines don't define your hand - you're good at playing and winning lots of small pots - your oop opponent must hold a strong hand to win a pot from you - you understand the real math of the game at least at a basal level - you have 20000+ Courtesty of Fimbulwinter in this thread |
