22s: Somewhat Weird 1010
PartyPoker $22 Speed Tournament, Big Blind is t200 (7 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com
UTG (t1355) Hero (t3660) MP1 (t3355) CO (t1744) Button (t5499) SB (t1750) BB (t2637) Preflop: Hero is in UTG+1 with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG raises to t400, Hero ??? I guess the play is All In, but that is a weird looking bet from shortstacked UTG, and we have the entire field behind us, and a healthy stack we might want to protect...? (In the moment I made the super-expert play of getting timed out. Oops.) |

Bumping this since the only reply was from a drunkard. Appreciate any opinions. Jay, you still push sober?

Re: 22s: Somewhat Weird 1010
How about calling and pushing any reasonable flop if noone enters the hand with you aside from UTG? That might allow you to extract value but not risk your whole stack.

Re: 22s: Somewhat Weird 1010
Im weak tight, I fold. Too many people behind you and very very little FE on utg.

Re: 22s: Somewhat Weird 1010
Read dependent. If he is a min raising donky I'd probably push. But, I like a fold here.
Calling would be terrible. At 200/400 you wouldn't limp this hand UTG+1, so why would you call 400 here? |

Btw anytime you want some free cash look for me at a Party cashgame on a friday night. Lost 5 buyins in half an hour! I rock! |

[/ QUOTE ] Calling isn't my normal move here, I'm just considering the possibilities of it not being a terrible choice. I think it has a couple merits to it. Calling his raise here is not quite the same as flat calling UTG+1 with 200/400 blinds because the UTG raise and your call of it suggest FAR more strength than a call of the blinds. This makes it more likely that you'll get heads up with UTG and be in a good position to push the flop. Also, because this move suggests more strength, you can avoid running into a hand against which you do not want to be all-in. If one of the bigger stacks has such a hand they will probably push or call, and you can get out of the hand without risking your whole stack. Being that there's t700 on the board to be picked up right now makes a push feel good. But I certainly don't think a call would be "terrible." |

Re: 22s: Somewhat Weird 1010
I'd push unless I had seen him showdown a big hand after limping or minraising pre-flop in earlier levels.

Re: 22s: Somewhat Weird 1010
Calling here does nothing but commit a large % of your stack, encourage others to call behind and may get someone to push with a worst hand (ie. AK/AQ/AJ).
