The \'Rate A song picked by the previous poster\' game..
This may catch on, it may not, there is only one way to fine out.
Basically I give you a choice of 4 songs, you pick one and review it, say if you like it, and why, or if you hate it and why, give it a star rating if you want. Then you list 4 songs for someone else to choose one. Try not to only choose really obscure or rare songs, as obviously not as many people will have heard them. There is little point to this game, other than it may introduce you to some new music and is something to do. So the next person, choose one of these 4 songs, review it, then post 4 more songs. Rebellion (Lies) - The Arcade Fire
This song really changed my perspective on music. They were performing on Letterman on couple of years back, and it was different than anything I was used to. I had grown up listening to classic rock, and when I heard this, I bought the CD the next day and loved it. As for the track itself, the intro is hypnotic. It really helped seeing it live, because I really got into the energy of the song. I have trouble writing about music, but I really love this song, and the whole album. As for my songs... At the Bottom of Everything - Bright Eyes: ALL of their songs are either hit or miss with me and I remember a few years ago when I first listened to "I'm Wide Awake" being annoyed with the entirely too emo intro. As much as this band misses, I still like them, but this song I never have liked.
Tangled Up in Blue - Bob Dylan: Always loved this song, always loved the album it came from. Dylan is a beautiful storyteller, this song is a great story. Two Princes - Spin Doctors: Never liked the spin doctors, this song is ok. Jesus, Ect. - Wilco: Great song, the live versions are great as well. I don't know many that dislike this song. Heart of Gold - Neil Young
Great Song, has a definite Country vibe to it, as Neil Young often has. This has got to be one of his most recognizable songs, along with Keep on Rockin' in the Free World. It's totally acoustic, with lyrics about someone who is looking for love (A heart of Gold) but has never been able to find it, so he keeps looking. This song basically got me into checking out the rest of Neil Young's catalogue, which (admittedly) contains very bad stuff as well as good. Get this song/ record with all haste. Have a Cigar - Pink Floyd
Good tune - one of the more catchy Pink Floyd songs - it actually gets a little airtime on the radio. I'm fairly sure it came off the "Wish You Where Here" album which had their most popular song of all time on it. The lyric "by the way, which one's Pink?" in this song was actually a question asked by an American record exec. The Band - Ophelia
"Ashes of laughter, the ghost is clear, why do the best things always disappear, like Ophelia." Love The Band and love this song, I was actually going to do Caledonia Mission or Rag Mama Rag as one of my 4 in my previous thread but decided not to. Great, great song. Next 4: Bad Company- Bad Company David Bowie- Starman Massive Attack- Unfinished Sympathy Supertramp- The Logical Song |

Re: The \'Rate A song picked by the previous poster\' game..
Bad Company- Bad Company
Bad Company is one of those underrated early 70's "southern rock" (they're british) bands that I rejected in my punk phase but recently realize that they kick ass. That said, this song is cheesy as hell. They apparently watched too many Clint Eastwood movies and decided that they were gunslingers. Despite the melodramatic and goofy lyrics, the chorus still stirs up my little 13 year old heart, especially since it contains that fantasticly simple drum fill that seems to pop up in every Bad Co. song...(BLICKumBLICK(pause)dannnnhhhBAAAAD company...etc). Did the drummer have one arm? It sure sounds like it, but hey, it works! The albums is worth having too for sure, especially for "Don't Let Me Down" which is awesome. Paul Rodgers does have a great voice, but he seems to be imitating better North American gravllers like Ronnie Van Zant and Burton Cummings. Anyway, it's waay better than that crappy Bon Jovi song about cowboys for shizzle. Early 90s Edition! Fugazi -- Waiting Room
The opening bass line, "I am a patient boy".. this song rules. It's got a great, great groove. The bass and simple guitar are the driving force making you shake your ass, with Ian Mackaye's voice giving it sense of urgency, a sense that these guys aren't f'ing around. sONIC yOUTH "teenage riot"
ahh...the guitar god is dead, and risen from the dead, and now walks the earth in a new form and body. I think this song gave birth to indie explosion that followed in the 90s. This laid the groundwork for Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, and so much more. Beck - Loser
This song was ok the first few times I heard it, but like the whole Mellow Gold album it completely lacks longevity. Whenever it pops up on shuffle on my iPod I just skip it. Oasis - Whatever Beatles - Hey Jude Iron & Wine - Woman King Teitur - Poetry & Aeroplanes |
