Angle Shooting or Legit?
Local Indian cardroom playing 6/12 at a pretty loose table. Two college kids get into a hand and a raising war erupts on a QT3 two spades board. Turn Q, bet-call. River 6, check-check.
Player who was doing the betting asks the other kid, "do you have a pair?". The caller says "Yes", then stares at the other kid. Original kid mucks his hand without seeing the caller's hand, and caller flips up KJo and rakes the pot. First kid gets pissed because he had AJ spades and would have won, and accuses the caller of angle shooting (even though he did have a pair on the board). Now the kid is obviously a [censored] for not flipping his cards at showdown, but does anyone think that the caller shouldn't have said what he said? |

Re: Angle Shooting or Legit?
Caller had a pair of queens. Kid should have tabled his hand. If I was the caller and the someone asked me if I had a pair I'd have said the same thing.

Re: Angle Shooting or Legit?
This is the result of "I don't want to show my hand and give up valueable information on how I play"-syndrome. (see the IWTSTH threads for another manifestation).
Keeping "how he plays" secret cost him the pot. What a maroon. Oh, the caller didn't "lie". He had a pair of queens. |

He told you what you were afraid of. And you mucked the winner. Next time, show the effing hand when you are called and you won't be 'tricked'. See that you are beaten before you muck. (If not you, your friend. Just by your tone.) |

(If not you, your friend. Just by your tone.) [/ QUOTE ] Neither. It was actually about a year ago and I was just wondering what others thought. I thought it was a dirty move since I think the caller knew exactly what he was doing. |

Re: Angle Shooting or Legit?
This is an obvious angle shoot by the guy with KJ and I would take the opportunity to slow roll him whenever possible.

[/ QUOTE ] No. Original kid should've flipped his cards. He didn't, asked a stupid question, got a stupid answer, and did a stupid thing. Granted, even if the KJ kid knew what the kid was actually asking, he still wasn't lying. Had he been lying about his hand (i.e. saying "I have two pair"), I would think that was bad, but saying he had a pair when there's clearly a pair on the board is perfectly fine. We've all done the same thing (saying I have two pair when the board reads KK224). AJ kid is a moron, KJ kid did absolutely nothing wrong. |
