Albums that you hated at first - now love.
For me, the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah release descibes this perfectly. When my friend first told me about these guys, I hated them. It was mainly:
- Clap Your Hands being the first track, which is still terrible. - The lead singer's voice. So after that first listen, I shelved the record. After two or three months, I finally caught a video on youtube of In This Home on Ice, and went back and listened again. After really listening, I finally began appreciating the record, and it's one of my favorites of 2005 now. So if you hated them, give it another shot. Anybody have any albums where you hated initially, but grew to enjoy? |

Re: Albums that you hated at first - now love.
My 3 favourite albums of all time I hated the first time I heard them. I also dont think its a coincidence.
I would say Im borderline obsessed with NMH's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (probably an average of 4-5 listens / week for several years now) but I really hated it when I first heard it. Always liked the opening track, but pretty much disliked everything else. The only reason I kept listening was that it happened to be put after an album that I liked on my winamp playlist, so it got a lot of "Im busy and cant change the song right now" plays. Also, I really hated CYHSY the first time, now I love that CD. Im also one of the few who likes the opening track. |

My 3 favourite albums of all time I hated the first time I heard them. I also dont think its a coincidence. [/ QUOTE ] Well, to someone who takes music seriously this will almost always be true. The best music is challenging and not immeditely gratifying. It forges new directions and they are not yet necessarily within your comfort zone. [ QUOTE ] I would say Im borderline obsessed with NMH's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea [/ QUOTE ] Yes. Yes you are. Strangely, it actually struck a chord with me the first time I heard it. HI! To the OP, Kid A is the truest example of this. I pretty much wrote off Radiohead for nearly two years. I simply didn't put in the time to understand what was going on, or perhaps I just wasn't ready for it. Then I was driving to a concert with a friend, he forced me to listen to it despite my strong objections, and it was an awakening of sorts. YHF was similar, but different. I actually thought it was boring, like what the hell is the big deal? Edit: Adding Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head. More examples of a band completely going against a preset image I had for them and me rejecting it immediately. |

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is totally true for me. Not Aeroplane - some of Kid A.
Also, I don't understand wtf everyone hates the opening track for. As far as 1 minute opening tracks guy it's far from the worse. I've been conditioned to more or less ignore those types of things. |

The Birthday Party (Nick Cave's old band)
-Prayers on Fire Record store guy ordered it for me thinking I'd like it, but I was just a punk 14/15 yr old and not really ready for that level of insanity yet. Now it's in my top 10 |
