Default having trouble sleeping after going out drinking

Whenever I go out drinking, I often wake up 5-6 times in the night and have trouble getting back to sleep. I am pretty sure this is connected to drinking since I have never had insomnia or other sleep problems. It happens even if I have a mild night of 6 or 7 beers rather than a hard liquor blackout/time travel night. Does anyone else have this and what's a tip for fixing it?

Excessive drinking robs the brain of seratonin, an important sleep hormone. Try 3g melatonin to even it out.

I had the same problem, then I realized it was because I was drinking rum and cokes or rum and energy drinks all night and the caffeine was waking me up.

Same. I rarely sleep more than 4 or 5 hours if I drink a lot.

Yep, like many others I have this same problem. Either I can't fall asleep or I wake up real early, sort of depends which way it goes.

I always sleep like a baby after a long night of drinking beer.

I wake up a lot if I'm dehydrated. Have a few glasses of water while you are out drinking, one or two before going to bed, and keep a full glass on the nightstand for when you wake up in the middle of the night. Helps reduce hangovers too.

Let me alert you to the disturbing fact that this issue can get worse as you get older.

When I was in my early 20s, I had no problem sleeping after drinking (particularly if I took the obvious precaution of drinking some water). After becoming married with kids, I inevitably drank less, losing my tolerance perhaps.

At one point, I went through a stage when I found it helpful to have one drink right before bed. I noticed that if I had 2 or more drinks, I would have the issues mentioned in the OP. Then I noticed that if I didn't time my one drink correctly, it could backfire. In other words, if I had the drink at 10 pm, I might get tired for a while. But if I stayed up till 11:30, this would boomerang and I would be more alert right when I wanted to sleep.

I have nothing particularly helpful to say about this, except try not to get older.
