Miami Vice: Quick review/thoughts
Saw this tonight, I have to say it's a pretty cool summer movie. It's very much a Micahel Mann film. I'm not eactly sure what I mean by this, but I think anyone whose seen his other movies would notice similarities in the way they're shot.
Pros: Colin Farrel's hair The music throughout Action scenes are awesome, I mean just some kick ass shootouts/standoffs. Cons: Hackneyed dialogue. At times you're just thinking to yourself, wow this is so corny. Tired Hollywood plot mechanisms: At certain junctures, you feel like the way the plot is unfolding you've seen a million times before. |

Re: Miami Vice: Quick review/thoughts
Can you comment on the assertion/prediction made by some OOTers that this movie would feature stereotypical "black cop/white cop" tension between the two main characters as a key plot device?
My contention is/was that the movie would stay true to the TV and not rely on such stereotypes. |

Have you seen the reviews on rottentomatoes? It's weird because they're so polarized. Critics either really love it, or they really hate it. |

How does it compare to "heat" and "collateral" 2 of Mann's other movies? Heat is one of my favorite movies alltime.

Re: Miami Vice: Quick review/thoughts
Is Gong Li's (Isabella) character well developed or do they just rely on the old "dragon lady" archetype?

[/ QUOTE ] i wish i could find the original OOT thread where a few idiots couldn't get through their racially-polarized heads that just because a movie has a white lead and a black lead doesn't mean their has to be tension between them. EDIT: i found the thread - it seems El Ishmael was the chief idiot. |

This guy really didn't like it. [/ QUOTE ] Ya, I haven't seen the movie (will go tomororw night) but he sounds like an old man who is afraid of change: [ QUOTE ] This piece of cinematic slop should make Hollywood take pause and seriously examine the issue of shooting major films on HD digital video. The HD used on Mann's latest is exceptionally bad, but no matter what kind of spin the industry wants to put on it, HD never looks as good as regular film. Hollywood would like to have you believe otherwise so they can save a few bucks on the crap they peddle you, but HD is always grainier, darker and lacks the sharpness of film. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know what the hell he's talking. The HD shooting in Collateral looks so much sharper, more realistic, and more stylish than regular shooting. As well, he hated Collateral which was an awesome movie. |
