Risk of ruin for $200 bankroll playing .5 / 1
Is there a good chance that I'll go broke doing this? I have $200 on Party, but they don't have lower limits...I won't be cashing out unless I desperately need the money so if I manage to make money I'll be at the proper bankroll soon enough.

Why not play on a site with lower limits and some sort of bonus program to build that roll up quicker?
I dont think $200 is terribly risky if you have proven in the past that you are a winning player at this level. (But probably not recommended) However, I think you have to be prepared to find a site with lower limits if you start off bad. |

If you are a losing player then you will go broke eventually.
If you are a winning player then you chances are less with a 200bb bankroll. At .5/1 losing 200bb is probably an indication of very poor play. |

How much do you think I can risk to lose before stopping? 100BB? I don't think I will lose though, barring any exceptionally bad luck.

If the money is not important to you, and you play reasonably well, then I think that your $200 can last you a long time.
If you are going to receive a bonus for number of hands played, then you have an even better chance of building your $200 up to > $300. By the way, dont be too surprised if you find some of the tables to be playing very tight. |

[ QUOTE ]
Why tight? [/ QUOTE ] I have been playing on the Party .50/1.00 tables lately, and it is just my observation that often (although not always) the tables seem to have been playing tight. By that I mean preflop raises often winning the blinds, or say only 1 player and the BB calling a preflop raise. Having said that, there are plenty of tables to choose from. So you can always change to a different table, if you find yourself playing in the situation I described. Unless of course, you enjoy playing on a tight table. |

I would try .25/.50 at PokerStars instead before going to Party for .50/1

For a 1 BB/100 winner with a SD of 15 BB/100 (typical for full ring, tightish player), your risk of ruin for a 200 BB roll is about 17%. |

Re: Risk of ruin for $200 bankroll playing .5 / 1
Party was the first site I played on and I deposited the minimum $50. I didn't want to risk a lot yet until I know whether or not I was good enough to stick it out. I played extremely tight because that's all I knew at the time, possibly ran good and multiplied that investment many time at .5/1.
I've never busted out and am now bonus whoring/rakebacking at 1/2, 2/4 after a couple years. Yes, I move up slow. I'm way overrolled for my limit. However, if I knew anything about bankrolls and variance at the time, I'd have probably deposited more. Maybe not though because I was wary of the security of my money and such at first. Good luck! |
