Given NL a try
I'm just starting to donk around NL, so this may be pretty standard, just trying to get a feeler.
BB was 29/29/.5 over a small sample. No specific reads. FWIW he wrote "lay it down, your beat" after he pushed. Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver) Hero ($146.65) BB ($95.60) UTG ($79.35) MP ($61.72) Button ($99.50) Preflop: Hero is SB with 9, 9. Hero posts a blind of $0.50. 3 folds</font>, Hero (poster) raises to $2.5</font>, BB calls $2. Flop: ($6) 3, 2, 8 (2 players)</font> Hero bets $4</font>, BB raises to $10</font>,Hero raises to $25</font>, BB calls $82.60 (All-In), Hero ? |

Re: Given NL a try
Flop bet is fine. After BB raises, I would probably call here and then check on turn. I don't like the 25 reraise and now you have to fold to the all in.
From a book: "remember: big pots are for big hands." You have an overpair. Let it go. |

Re: Given NL a try
I like the way you played it as long as you folded and didn't let him bait a call out of you.

Re: Given NL a try
I can see calling and reevaluating on the turn. How do you play this if you have JJ or QQ. Same?

Re: Given NL a try
there is a chance this guy is playing something like KQ of diamonds or some other two relatively high diamonds. Of course he could also be playing as set of 8s. In any case you are either close to 50-50 or way behind. Fold it and save your money for a better spot

He either has a higher overpair, a set, 2-pair, OESFD, or overcards+FD. You're behind all of those in a stack-vs-stack battle on the flop, so fold. Kudos to you for bumping his flop raise to $25 to buy some information. But now you have to use the information you bought by folding. edit: I probably would have called his raise to $10 on the flop and reevaluated at the turn with a strong tendency to fold to more aggression. |
