Default Is Shreveport decent for poker?

A friend and I are thinking about making a multiple-day poker run somewhere. We live in TX and would like to go somewhere within driving distance. He lives in Dallas, I live in Austin, so I guess OK or LA are probably the most likely suspects. We've both been to Winstar and the Choctaw place several times.

Is Shreveport a decent place to play poker? Will there be action all times of the day? During the week? I'll probably mostly play holdem, 5/10 to 10/20, he'll probably play some holdem but prefers stud and omaha.

Any suggestions? Also, if anyone wants to meet in one of these places and have a drink or play some poker, that would be cool.

I hope no one minds if I bump this. It's just been a few hours and already on the 3rd page! I guess this forum gets a lot of traffic.

I am fairly certain that the Horseshoe (1-800-895-0711) and the El Dorado (318-220-5274) both have poker. I suggest you call them the week before you go (on the same day and during the same time that you will be there) and ask them what games are going, lists, etc.

I live in Shreveport. I know that Horseshoe and El Dorado both have poker rooms. They very rarely spread Omaha (no idea what limit). No stud. Both only spread 4/8 and 20/40 limit Hold'em. El Dorado spreads 1/2 and 2/5 NL. Horseshoe only has 2/5.

I have only been during weekdays around 1pm to 5pm. There are quite a few tables going, usually not long of a wait at either place. El Dorado is a nicer room I think.

4/8 and 20/40, nothing in between? Harsh. I'll give them a call, thanks.

Anywhere else that's easy driving distance from Dallas?

Just go up to Winstar. Action is way better than Shreveport and it's a lot lot closer.

Half the distance. Twice the fun.

the new Riverwind south of Norman is run by the same tribe as winstar. It's pretty nice. See my trip report a few days ago in this forum.

If you want to share a ride(provided that you have a car), give me a call and we can share gas...

I am a student at UT, and 18, so I can only play in OK.

PM me if interested.

El Dorado has 1/2NL and 4/8 Limit all the time with 2/5NL (the big game lol) weekends and most evenings. 4/8 Omaha hi and 10/20 limit runs on the weekends sometimes. Saturday $100 rebuy tourney which is very soft.

If you want more limits and better action go to Winstar. If you want other casino stuff and better entertainment go to Shreveport
