Could someone explain the monster freerolls to me?

I'm still trying to figure out what the deal is with these 'freerolls'. They call them freerolls but I still have to qualify to play them? From their link it seems like you have to play in a $5 SNG where they take all the money and add it to the monster freeroll, and then first place gets the entry fee.

Now when I look at the payout structure they are paying top 1000. Does this mean these tourneys are going to have 10K people playing in them? It really doesnt seem like these tourneys are going to be profitable enough to make up for the amount of money the cash game players are putting into it. The only benefit I can see is when all those donks take that 'free' money back to the cash games, which might make them juicier.

Does anybody understand the tourney structure?
