There were a lot of athletes that had some big what ifs?? that go along with there career.. Please add some others as i am likely to forget some.. Some are injuries, others trajic, and other's voluntary..

What if...

Ted Williams didn't have to go to war.

Bo Jackson didn't get a hip pointer.

Tony Conigliaro didn't get beaned.

Monica Seles didn't get stabbed.

Lemieux's back and health held up.

Bobby Orr's knees held up.

Barry Sanders had a good Offensive line.

Len Bias didn't snort a line the size of a snow bank.

Gayle Sayer's had a full career.

Jordan didn't retire 15 times.

Ben Hogan didn't get in a car crash.

Mike Tyson kept his head in the game.

Borg didn't retire so early.

Ali wasn't forced out of boxing for refusing the draft.

For me, the biggest one has to be Monica Seles.. When she came onto the tennis scene, she was pretty much unstoppable, and it seemed she was going to end Graf's reign of dominance. Than, she got stabbed in the back by a crazy graf fan, and steffi went on to capture the most major win's by a women's tennis player..(I believe.)

Clearly the biggest one is Jordan. Had he won 8 straight, or maybe 9 or 10 if they didn't break up the Bulls after 1998, his legend would be even larger.

It seems very possible his legend would not be as large.

Ali was forced out of boxing when his skills were at their peak. But, it also gave him resting years. So, when he went up against Frazier and Foreman, his body hadn't taken the beating it otherwise would have.
