Default Professional Players boycotting WPT events

I searched for this so I appologize if it's been covered. CardPlayer has a small article concerning the lower # of entrants in this year's WPO and mentions a "small contingent of professional players is boycotting WPT events".

Is it known who is boycotting WPT events???

Andy Bloch has voiced his opposition to the World Poker Tour release. I think Ferguson was boycotting or considering boycotting. I read somewhere that Lederer didn't like the release either. I'm sure there are others too.

Bloch and Ferguson for sure.

I believe Ferguson said that he thought his sponsor agreements made it IMPOSSIBLE for him to agree to the WPT's terms.

I know Richard Brodie is avoiding them. It sounds like it is a lot of the Full Tilt guys.

He was the lead programmer behind MS Word in the early days of Microsoft and is a very rich man I suspect. He has an excellent blog about playing the WPT circuit as a basic amateur. If you google for "Quiet Lion" you should find it.

I think maybe Paul Phillips is boycotting them too, although i'm not sure.

Why are they boycotting them?

Mostly the release forms that the players have to sign to get in; a lot of players are bothered by the freedom the WPT has in using their names. Also, the crappy round structure at the final table probably contributes.

Brodie is a super-wealthy former Microsoft guy who now apparently plays big $$$ online poker under the name QuietLion. And like Punker said, if you google his name, you'll find he's got a blog that talks about a lot of his poker experiences.
