Default Question for Lee Jones

Let me know if this needs to go on another post.

Lee,

With a bill in the senate right now to make online poker illegal in the states, what actions has PokerStars taken (and other sites if you know) to combat this?

On a similar topic, if this bill does pass within the next year, what would happen to all those US players who have money in their account, but are unable to access or play with it.

Thanks for any reply,

Ace

the bill doesnt stop you from accessing the money already in the accounts, or from taking money out of the accounts. it just stops you from depositing

Really!?!?!

Can you point me to the place where you found this? I was under the impression (I think I heard it on NPR) that they would block the IP addresses via the ISP's and that the govt would make them do this.

There are 3671 threads on this in the Legislation Forum.

The bill as passed would require ISPs to block access to gambling sites. No one seems to know if that could be done, or how much it would cost, or if the bill requires the government to reimburse ISPs for those costs.

It appears highly unlikely that this bill will become law.

I'm sure there would be some time before the bill goes into effect for you to cash out.

On a related note, I think it's pretty much understood that the bill is going to die in the senate b/c it's not a priority.

Yeah, but you could still fund your account via credit card based in another county.

You could open up a Swiss bank account, too, but how many fish do you think would go to that much trouble to play poker online?

Ok, apparently i was an idiot and didnt understand the bill. I was just going on what i heard during the debate, they made it sounds like they just wanted to stop the banks/credit cards from being able to 'pay off internet gambling debts'. which i interpreted as you just can't deposit.

but yea, as someone else said, even if the bill passes you would have time to get your money off the site.
