guilty pleasure movies?
I'm not a regular poster, but I really like the concept of the lounge, and I'd like to start posting more.
...spurred on by a movie I watched today, here goes: There have been mutiple threads on movies that you come across on TV and watch to the end no matter what, just because you have to/love the movie. But what are your guilty pleasure movies, ones that you might pop in the DVD player or see coming up and plan on watching the whole thing? My choice would be Turner & Hooch. Silly/Repetitive concept from the 90's (much like the father/son body swapping concept from the late 80's?) but I think Tom Hanks is great in it, and damn if that dog doesn't rock. Fun movie. Another one I watched for the first time today, which I thought was REDICULOUS (but will ABSOLUTELY watch it again) was 'The Guru.' Not even just to watch Heather Graham or Marisa Tomei (mmm) for an hour and a half - it was just goofy, mindless, stupid fun. More nominations? - Jay |

Re: guilty pleasure movies?
If I think about this, I can come up with some better examples, but to get the ball rolling I'm going to say the Zatoichi (Blind Swordsman) movies. I like the older black & white ones best, although the recent release with the tap-danced ending was pretty good. Sure, the plots are formulaic, but if you think about it, a disproportionally large number of the people Zatoichi kills are government functionaries and crooked gamblers. Yum!

I'd have to concur that Zatoichi flicks are pretty good in this respect, fairly mindless but with strong morals and entertaining action.

Re: guilty pleasure movies?
I really like to watch movies where it's obvious the actors are having a lot of fun making the movie, even if the movie itself kind of sucks. A couple of examples:
The Whole Nine Yards Saving Silverman Bad Boys (Will Smith and Martin Lawrence) |

I agree with Pretty in Pink though. |

Re: guilty pleasure movies?
I hate to admit it, but I have a few of these;
Starship Troopers...SO campy, Casper Van Diem is awful, but at least it has Denise Richards. And Michael Ironsides always kicks ass. Color of Night...This one couldn't decide between being a murder mystery/thriller and softcore porn, so it became both. I'm always entertained by this one. Also, great cast. |

Re: guilty pleasure movies?
Starship Troopers might be the most ridiculously bad movie I've ever seen.
and I will still watch it. |

My Cousin Vinny and Arthur are two of my favorites to just pop in the DVD player.

Re: guilty pleasure movies?
Every time Jaws comes on I sit and watch it, even though I have seen it countless times. Its only the original that I like, I have no interest in versions 2-4? is it? |
