400NL - Three Barrels - Cagey or dumb?
400NL, 6m. Button is 18/11. SB is 35/20. Effetive stacks are about $400. I have a TAGish image (I think).
Preflop: 3 folds. Button raises to $14. SB calls. I call in the BB with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Flop: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (Pot $42) SB checks, I bet $30, Button calls, SB folds. After his flop call, I put Button on a mid-to-high pocket pair. I thought if I kept firing he might lay it down. Turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (Pot $102) I bet $80, Button calls. Hm. River: T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (Pot $262) I move in for $282... Good spot for 3 barrels or is this suicidal? This is how I would play trips for what it's worth. Edit: I know I probably should have bet more on the turn if I was planning to push the river. |

I would need some sort of history before firing that 3rd barrel. The river was terrible. Check-fold.

I think this is very marginal. Your range from his viewpoint is like 22/87/76/A7/AA and basicallly nothing else. I doubt that he knows that you'd play a 7 or 22 this way.

Re: 400NL - Three Barrels - Cagey or dumb?
1. you don't have position, I would feel better if he at least checked the river, meaning he probably has a somewhat vulnerable hand. I mean he could have a monster and be DYING to get all the money in, and I would think this is how he'd play it.
2. I like the turn bet size, if you bet too much and he calls, then he's going to call on the river b/c the pot is bigger and effective stacks are smaller. At least your putting him to a tough river decision. 3. It seems like your trying to represent AA, which I don't think you'd ever push on the river with. This line looks very strange for a made hand, unless you filled up w/ TT Overall, I don't like it, usually villains who call for the pot on the flop and turn, usually talk themselves into calling river. Especially when the flop is dry like this and no scare cards came on the turn or river that you could reasonably represent. |

I usually squeeze this preflop.
Since you called, I don't like the turn bet. I know you're folding misc overpair stuff, but you can bet the river instead when he checks through. give up. |

After his flop call, I put Button on a mid-to-high pocket pair. I thought if I kept firing he might lay it down. [/ QUOTE ] I think this bit is where you went wrong. |

I definitely like a squeeze preflop, it's a textbook perfect situation to do it.
