Default QQ on scary board

It is the second hand of the 100 seat FT WSOP qualifier. I'm in the SB w/ Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Blinds are 15/30 and I have 2955 chips.

Folded to the Button who makes it 150 to go. Button has 2970 chips. I raise to 500, he calls. (Pot = ~1000)

Flop 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I bet 700. He calls. (Pot = ~2400)

The turn is the worst card I can think of, the 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Every draw imaginable gets there. We have 1800 left and there is 2400 in the pot. Villain is a complete unknown being this is the second hand of the tournament. What is your play? Are we committed here?

Villian is drawing to what? He opened with 5XBB and called your raise in position. Does that say 9-8 or Ax diamond? Not to me. I'd say AA-JJ & AK is far more likely. If he has AK with 1 or 2 diamonds, he isn't going anywhere, but he may not bet the turn (free card/trap), but you have no read. I'm sorry, but an A or K scare me more here as played. I check and expect villian to check behind.

I'd put him on JJ+ or AK and but he could be holding 1 diamond with the pair or both with the AK.

I would lean towards checking, hoping he checks behind. The trouble with that is if he is drawing to a flush you give him a free card and if he has hit the flush he may check behind to trap you on the river. If he bets on the turn I would narrow his range to a high pair possibily with a diamond.

Depending on my mood I would also consider pushing here, if he is on a draw he will fold, if he has a pair he may fold??

Check and see what happens.

I think pushing may be your best bet only because in these satellite tournaments, the more chips you have, the better you can steal the blinds later in the tourney. By pushing you may get JJ-99 to call or even an Ad.

Your assigned range of JJ-99 and a naked Ad isn't consistent with the betting thus far.

If we check here, are we check-calling or check-folding if villain bets at us? I think if I intend to check call a reasonable bet I'm better off pushing myself to avoid giving a free card to a naked diamond in a hand like T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or something like that.

I'm not sure I like checking here. It gives up control of the hand and gives villain a free chance to outdraw on us/bluff us off the pot...

I think this is too tight a range for an unknown villain, he may be a decent player or he may be a donkey.

I think your typical player would call the reraise w/ any pair hoping to flop a set, and maybe AQ/AJ too.

The thing that sucks here is that nearly every low pair is beating us now. 33 and 88 have straights (though 33 probably didn't stick around after the flop) 44-77 all have sets. AA and KK are ahead us. I think vilains play is consistant with all those hands. A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] also are beating us now. Overcards without two diamonds were likely to fold on the flop.

OTOH we are beating JJ-99 and the pot is big.

I push, villain calls and wins with his J8o that turned a straight. How come none of you hand readers put that in his range?
