I heard a sports show guy say on the radio a few days ago that the US will probably hire the former German coach if "...the current US coach steps down". My thought was: Why the "if"?

While not exactly the same situation, it reminded me of a conversation that must have taken place in the late spring of 1979:

"I'm sorry Mr. Moss, you're a nice guy and you've done a fine job these first six weeks. But, you see, it turns out that Sparky Anderson is available now, so..."

BTW, I'd like to thank Bruce for his service to US Soccer. Our run in 2002 was wonderful. It's a shame we couldn't bring our effort from the Italy game to the other two games, but he's been great for the program.
