Pushing into the big stack
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (4 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)
SB (t2381) BB (t12589) Hero (t1700) Button (t3330) Preflop: Hero is UTG with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Hero pushes... Big stack just got there by calling an all-in reraise w/ JJ after thinking for quite some time. Big stack is moderately tight. I have been tight the only hand I'd shown down was KK. I'm pretty sure that I should be pushing KJs into the BB of the other two players but was it a mistake for me to push into the big stack? If she calls and I win, I'm not really guaranteed all that much more money anyways. I'm confused. |

Re: Pushing into the big stack
Super standard. You're the shortest, and the big stack is going to be to your left no matter what. You have a very strong hand and FE still.

in a situation like this, i push every time.
of course, if i was the bb, i'd call your push with almost any two cards... |

[/ QUOTE ] I pushed precisely because I was the shortest stack. If I was even with the 3rd place guy I would not have pushed. Is that how you handle the situation yourself (taking lots of risks with the shortest stack but being somewhat conservative when not the short stack)? |

Re: Pushing into the big stack
Easy push.
A double up does a lot for you. Things won't be perfect anymore, and losing now to any two sucks, but what are you waiting for? Big stack is always going toe be behind you, and if you double, your FE more then doubles against him. |

Re: Pushing into the big stack
3rd place stack at that point was ~2400, which is only 3.5 bb more than you. i'd probably still push with that hand in that situation and look to double off the big stack.

I used to push this but I'm pretty sure this is a fold now...

[/ QUOTE ] Would you really call an 8.5BB push with 'almost any two' if you were the BB? I can't imagine that's a good idea... I think I'd rather fold and keep pwning the other short stacks, unless I had a decent hand that I felt comfortable about calling with. Anyone else have thoughts on this? |

I used to push this but I'm pretty sure this is a fold now... [/ QUOTE ] really? i think you have to push this hand 4-handed, even with 11BB. assuming we get raised off our blinds, we're down to 10BB and we now face the likely prospect of pushing with a lot worse than KJs. |
