Default I want to backup my entire computer and settings- possible?

I am going to have to send in my computer to get repaired, and there is a very large chance that it will come back with the HD erased. I have an external hard drive that is larger then the HD on my computer. Is there anyway I can back up the entire thing, and by that I mean EVERYTHING. All programs installed, all settings in the programs, etc. Basically when it comes back I want to be able to make it go back to exactly how it was. Is this possible?

How much time would it take to re-install and re-configure everything as you have it today if the system comes back wiped?

You can get Norton Ghost 9.0 for under $40.

Yes, there are others, some of which cost less. But G.H.O.S.T. (the product that Symantec purchased) pretty much created the market for this solution.
