Building/rebuilding a bankroll
I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how best to build/rebuild a bankroll? I made the mistake of taking out too much cash and left too little behind. I mean its obvious that I have to start building at smaller limits and cannot go to (for example $5/10 NL!). If you are starting with a small roll (say under $500) how best to increase it. NL, Limit, or SNGs?

Re: Building/rebuilding a bankroll
dude, depends on which kind of game you are any good at? If you really have to ask this question, then likely you have lots of learning to do, so i would suggest BONUS WHORING. Play a tight game and attempt to break even, with your bonuses being your "win".

Don't play over your roll, it can be a disaster.

Re: Building/rebuilding a bankroll
For NL play I like to have about 20 buy-ins for the game I'm playing. So with $500, I would play $25 NL. If your whole bankroll is only $500, it is clear that you are not a pro. So you shouldn't need to take any money out of your bankroll. Don't take money out if you want to build a roll.
You should also keep in mind the effects of short-term luck on your roll. If you build up to $1000, go ahead and play $50 NL if you want to. But be careful and if you lose a few hundred move back down. What I do is set an hourly rate goal for myself. I try to make 15-20 big blinds per hour ($2.50-$5 per hour at $25 NL table). If I can maintain that hourly rate after 300 hours of play, I move up. So for every level of play I've played 300 or more hours. This method works good for me. |

Re: Building/rebuilding a bankroll
I am for sure no pro. Decent rec at best (at least for the time being . My goals are pretty modest. Just make a little extra money pay for a holday or two each year, which I have managed to do for about 4 years consistently - but not this year
Thanks for the tips though people, good advice all around. I do definately take advantage of bonuses. One particular network offers 100% matching bonus each month which I do take advantage of. I play it tight and just try to stay even or maybe make a little and "profit" on the bonus like a few of you mentioned. |
