Some questions on raising in s8
Hi, new member here. I've been playing stud 8 cash games online for the past few weeks and I can't really get the logistics of raising and what to do on the next street down.
Okay say I get dealt a hand like a,2,3, I raise with it and am at a very passive and loose table. I get called by a bunch of people with 2,6,8 and similar hands. Than on 4th street 2 or more players have what looks to be like an obvious 4 to a low. And i get dealt a jack up. I check fold this correct even though I raised beforehand ? Also what if noone gets a low card up do I continue to check call or just get out if someone bets ? One more question I have, say I get involved in the same kind of situation with the same hand. Except this time my up card is a 4. I take the lead and than 2 or more inferior lows call. 5th is a high card up for all, do I continue to take the lead or do i just check-call ? And one final question, is there any specific sort of guidelines to what I should be raising with besides high pocket pairs ? For example 2,3,4 - 4,5,6 - 2,4,5 - 3,4,6 should I be raising with these hands at all ? |

Re: Some questions on raising in s8
If you're at a loose table confine yourself to raising with low hands with straight or flush potential. Hands such as (23)A tend to do better headsup so if people will respect a raise go ahead. Otherwise keep the pot small since it will lead to larger 4th street mistakes on your opponents part.
If you're at a truly loose table you can almost totally forget even playing high pocket pairs except aces with a baby. |

Re: Some questions on raising in s8
it is ok to peal on 4th when you have scoop potential, which you have with an ace and a wheel draw.
I always raise an ace with a low cards |

Re: Some questions on raising in s8
When you have A23J, whether you should take one off or not depends on how live Aces, Fours, and Fives are, and how likely you think it is that you can see fifth for only one bet. I lean towards folding in any case.
With A234K, I will usually bet as long as each of my opponents is also showing a banana. With 456, I would need a pretty good reason not to raise, such as dead cards. With the others, I will sometimes raise and sometimes not. It depends on what's shown, what I'm up against, what's left to act behind me, etc. Get Ray Zee's book. |
