Default Moved to Vegas, get a local ID for going out?

I dont really know where this post belongs, but I figure there are a lot of vegas locals around here who might have good insight.

I just moved to Vegas a week ago for the next 2 months to play poker. Yesterday I went shopping and struck up a conversation with this girl about clubs I should go to while I'm down here. While we were talking about it she and another girl were adament that I get a local Vegas ID, not neccessarily a drivers liscense, just an identification card because if not I'll get charged more and less likely to get in to places. Judging by the looks of these girls they probably don't have trouble getting into mamy places no matter what, so I dont know if they really know what they're talking about. Has anybody gotten a Vegas ID just for going out and does it really make a difference?

You should do this. For max value you should have both local and out of town ID.

randy, can you explain why... is it more so that clubs/bars will reject out of state ids a lot more, or that they will try to over charge out of state ids?

There are some places (some clubs) that offer discounts to locals whiel fleecing out of town visitors (a pricing scheme). Strip casinos work in the reverse, they give deals to out of town guests that aren't available to locals.

A lot of nightclubs only charge a cover to out of town, male guests.

At several clubs there will be no cover with a vegas ID.
