pick a number game

wanted to use a game of chance to decide something between another person and i and a third party proposed the following:

"I have a suggestion. I'm thinking of a number 1 thru 100. I'm going to send that number to myself in an email right now (time stamped). Person who gets closest without going over wins."

we went with it and decided that we would each send the third party an email with our number so that the picks were blind. i probably should've asked this question here before sending my number because i lost. any ideas on the proper number to pick?

"Price is Right" rules seem silly in a game like this. I guess it comes down to how tricky you think the number picker is likely to be. Personally I think I would pick 2.
