Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
Made my 1st trip to Harrah's on since it reopened on Saturday. Boy is it different..
They always had a 10/20 LHE going and on the weekend it would get bumped to 15 or 20. Nothing going at all, they couldn't even get the 15/30 Omaha Hi going. All they had was a bunch of 3/6 LHE and 2 4/8 half HE and half Omaha Hi for limit games, not even a 6/12 LHE game. They had a couple of 1/2 NL and a 2/5 NL game going. The other thing is that they increased the rake to 10% w/ a $5 max (vs. $4 max) with a $1 jackpot drop. Can you imagine playing 3/6 and having 1BB raked from every pot. Well let's hope that things pick back up. I actually wound up playing BJ for a while as it was kind of hard to get excited about playing 4/8 half and half, no matter how badly everybody played. |

Re: Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
Barry... NOLA Harrah's has been like that since I lived there in 04-05. Always been a $6 rake. Never had more than one 8/16 game. Occasionally get a 15/30 game going. Nothing higher. Harrah's sucks for gamblers. It isn't any different in the poker room.

Re: Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
Maybe my memory is faulty, but I was pretty sure that it was a total of $5, including the jackpot drop. I can also remember that it wasn't really unusual to get a 20 game going on the weekend a few years ago.

Re: Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
It was definitely $4 rake with $1 BBJ the last time I played there which I believe was late 2004 or so.
The increased popularity of 1/2 and 2/5 NL may also be to blame for the lack of 10/20 type limit games. In Tunica, the people who can afford the buy-in for 10/20 or 15/30 limit (those with more than $100 or $200) really seem to be flocking to NL (no cap on the buy-in in Tunica). |

If this is successful there, expect it in Vegas and elsewhere Harrahs screws up...err...runs poker rooms. $5 rake sucks but go to Cali sometime and play when the max rake is taken on a flop no matter if the pot is $10 or $50. |

Re: Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
No one down here plays limit any more. It still feels strange because that's all I used to see in that place. 20 limit games and the 'big' 5-5 NL game all the better and or rich players used to play. All the 3/6 and 4/8 LHE players play 1/2 NL now. Too much TV I guess. I haven't seen a 10/20 HE in forever, though it did sprout up a little while the Circuit was there. There's ususally a 15/30 Omaha going and often on the weekends a PL Omaha game that's usually good. The 2/5 NL games are especially soft though I generally play 5/10 because there's no cap on the buy in and the game is usually only moderately tougher. Lately many of the 2/5 players that have been winning recently have been getting brave which helps make the 5/10 easier to beat.
Also, in the NL games they've switched to a $6/half hr time drop instead of a rake. The rake is still $5 + $1 for the jackpot and 1/2 NL (I believe) is now a jackpot game. |

Re: Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
It's not just Harrah's down there. IP in Biloxi $5 rake + $1 for JP on limit games. $6 time on NL. They do it because they can. People still play cause they and Isle are the only rooms in town. Will be interesting to see what the Beau Rivage does next month.

Re: Harrah\'s in NOLA isn\'t the same
The rake has been $5 + $1 BBJ for the last 3 years at least. There never has not been a regular 20-40 game going since 2003. The 15-30 used to go at least 3 or 4 times a week, but even before the storm we could only get it going on Friday nights. Now post-K most of the regular 15 players are gone.
The capped buyin NL game was been an unstoppable rebel force, killing all the 6-12 to 15-30 action (much like most other casinos in the nation). Hopefully the fish will soon realize that their $ lasts longer playing LHE, and the mid-limit games will start coming back. Sidenote - when The Beau Rivage reopens on August 29, they should have a daily 15-30 game with a rock. Awesome game. |

But Jacque-Imo\'s is still the same
The good news about my visit to NOLA is that Jacque-Imo's is open and it is just as good as I remember. Their sauces have to be the best!
