Made a week play with a mediocre hand.
First orbit, all unknown players.
Party Poker 1.00/2.00 Hold'em (9 handed) link Preflop: Hero is SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 folds, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, 1 folds, MP3 calls, 2 folds, Hero completes, BB checks. Flop: (5.00 SB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players) Hero checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 bets, MP3 calls, Hero calls, BB folds, UTG+1 folds. Turn: (4.00 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, MP1 bets, MP3 calls, Hero folds. River: (6.00 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) MP1 checks, MP3 checks. Final Pot: 6.00 BB. The flop makes me sick... Why did I call? Should I bet out? If I check-rasie, how do I continue from there on? C/R may not be so good because I dont know if anyone will bet or who that would be. |

Re: Made a week play with a mediocre hand.
I would have either bet here (hoping everyone missed the flop and folds which is unlikely) or check raised. Just calling is too weak as it gives us no information and does nothing to get rid of draws.

Re: Made a week play with a mediocre hand.
Lead the flop. Assuming the field thins out, you should then lead the turn and lead the river. Reevaluate if you get raised somewhere.

grunch
raise the flop to protect your hand. you want to fold out people who may beat you later, and increase your chance of winning the pot. |

Re: Made a week play with a mediocre hand.
Bet out on the flop. A checkraise would be ideal, but it'd be really bad to end up having it get checked around and giving everyone a free card that has the gutshot draw...I am sure you have already realized that was a mistake to fold the turn. When I have top pair, crap kicker, I usually keep betting til I hit resistance...Then I either call down or fold, depending on reads and the board.

Re: Made a week play with a mediocre hand.
fold or raise the flop if you don't bet out. Figure out what you are up against and protect your hand at the same time. Calling is bad because if you don't catch one of five cards you are going to face the situation that you had on the turn, which is a fold without reads.
