Simple thought that works for me
So I am a winning player these days. Just barely but anyway. Even so I used to get angrier when I lost or had bad streaks than I got happy when I won or was running good. That was until I asked myself, "why is that? That isn't +EV. Your bankroll suggests you should be happier when running good, than angry when running bad" So I just decided to stop the old way of being with a way of being that better matches my equity curve, otherwise whats the point in playing no matter how much you make... And so far it works pretty darn well.
Just felt like sharing. |

You can't just say, "I'm going to be happy when I win and happy when I lose." I'm too competitive for that. Most of the time when I'm running bad I also feel like I played poorly, which is the worst feeling of all. Edit: And this is coming from someone with decent emotional control. Basically I just don't understand the point of your post. It's not that easy to be happy when running bad. |

Solution to all lifes problems = be happy when your sad. [/ QUOTE ] Meh... A little too simplistic. Try this: Pain is inevitable. Feeling the genuine pain of life is both heathy and nessasary. 90% of all mental illness stems from a desire to avoid the genuine pain of life. Misery is optional. You can acknowledge the genuine pain of life and experience that pain without it being the focus of your attention. Joy and pain are not mutually exclusive. |

Re: Simple thought that works for me
phydaux: Wise words. However, are you sure that the statement "90% of all mental illness stems from a desire to avoid the genuine pain of life" is correct? What is your source for this claim?
