Default Robbery at the WSOP Rio cash games. Watch your stack! x-post

I was playing 50/100 Stud8 on Tuesday and I'm in the must move game. I get moved into the main game and everyone is standing around the table when they tell me the following story that just occured before I moved.

The main game was on the rail between the main-tournament section and higher stake cash games. Maybe table 165? I think that sounds about right.

A player in the three seat with his back to the walk-way (the roped in path between the cash games and tournament section) had just colored out a bunch of chips as he was leaving. He had $4800 in cash and chips in front of him for a total of just over $5000. He was talking to his friend in the four seat as a hand was heads up between the seven and eight seats.

Someone must have been watching the table for the perfect moment and reached over his shoulder, grabbed his cash and chips and bolted out the hallway. The entrance to the hallway is approximately 30 feet from said table. The player ran after the individual and could not catch him (he's in his 60s) as he fell and injured his wrist. Security did not see the incident and the crook got away with the money.

No one at the table saw the individual that stole the money as they were all focused on the hand at the other side of the table. The incident was reported to security and they were going to “review the tapes” and get back to the player.

I have yet to get an update in this incident and will report back as soon as I do. Those of you that have played there know it to be a crazy sceen with lots of specators mixed among players. Watch your chips!

Is this like a metaphor for how all fish will lose their money in the longterm?

LoL

No, but I noticed no one else decided to help the guy. If the guy was pleasant, I'd probably go chase the prick down myself and "stomp a texas sized mudhole" in the bastard. In a poker room, either win it off the table or get out. Players should try to help protect each other as much as possible as that $ is still available to be won, maybe not now but at a later date. Now it's gone.

I would help chase, but I'd be afraid to leave my chips

Default UPDATE

I talked with the gents in the 50 game tonight. Rio security has an image from the tapes and has reported the image to LVPD and I hope the other casinos. The gentlemen who was robbed received $5000 from the Rio after they interviewed the other players about the incident.

No one noticed it even happened as the action was on the other side of the table.

Thats nice of the Rio. It seems they have done a lot wrong this WSOP. Maybe this will be a step in the right direction.
