Will be in Vegas July 19-23, staying at the Mirage for three nights starting the 20th with some guys, bachelor party style. I'm flying out a night early on the 19th and Hooters has a room right by the pool for $39 a night. That seems to cheap to pass up.
They claim to have a poker room which spreads up to $4/$8 limit. Any comments? I've checked out allvegaspoker.com. Is this worth looking into? |

Maybe the hotel room is worth looking into, but the poker room is between an afterthought and a joke. Usually wannabe macho guys playing low NL, and 2/4 or 4/8 during peak hours. Minescule room. Better off staying there, but playing accross the street at MGM if you want to stay close. Hell, even the Trop right next door has a better poker room, which is sad.

The poker room is small but the games are occasionally fantastic according to some friends of mine who have played a lot of hours there. Right after they opened, Howard Burroughs (a regular here) and some of my other friends were spending a lot of time in that room.

$39 a night plus easy access to MGM, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Alladin, Monte Carlo, and Bellagio. Why wouldn't you stay there?

For $39/night, Hooters is a heck of a value! The casino is brand new, there are several good (and relatively cheap) dining options, and the hotel's location is killer. I don't know this for sure, but I bet the hotel rooms were updated during the remodel from the former San Remo also.
I personally don't think the poker room is nearly as bad as it has been portrayed (including by AVP supporters), but I have only been there twice, including opening night, so I'm certainly no expert. As mentioned, Howard Buroughs is a 2+2 regular, and I've also heard that he has spent a lot of time in the Hooter's poker room, so perhaps he might comment on this thread. Hooters is selling value more than anything else, and in that regard I think it is doing a good job. So if you're looking for value, then Hooters is a good option. |

Imperial Palace is another option in the same vein. Cheap rooms, Excellent location, and crappy poker room. Just got back and was pleased.
